Hello. Winter is upon us. Please keep an eye on our website and the announce list for any cancellations of routes or delays of routes.
You may also sign up for text alerts at www.rainedout.net. Simply search for Illinois Heartland Library System. It will then prompt you to choose which hub’s alerts you would like to receive and you may put in your cell phone number and/or email. We will use this method of alerting you of closings/delays.
We promise not to spam you. Any charges that you normally incur for a text message will apply.
We are cognizant of everyone’s time and will try to let you know as far in advance as we can, when we are not running a route or closing a hub.
All IHLS offices will be closed in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day on Monday, January 15, 2018. Delivery will not be provided.
You are invited to an IHLS networking event on Tuesday, January 23, 2018, from 4:00-5:00 p.m. at the Effingham Public Library. This is your opportunity to share your thoughts and ideas with IHLS board members. Please register in L2.
Afterwards you are welcome to stay for the IHLS Board Meeting.
Following a national search, Illinois Heartland Library System is very pleased to announce that Cassandra Thompson has accepted the position of SHARE Director.
Ms. Thompson comes to us from the public library sector, with positions in a variety of institutions in different parts of the country and her experience includes using and training with Polaris.
Ms. Thompson will begin work on Monday, January 22. We will be sharing information about meetings dates with SHARE governance and members as soon as those dates have been determined.
IHLS would like to give a special thanks to the interview team as their input was invaluable throughout the search process. Team members include: Leslie Bednar (IHLS Executive Director), Ellen Popit (IHLS Membership Coordinator), Rhonda Johnisee (IHLS Senior Accountant), and Troy Brown (IHLS IT Director), as well as three members of the SHARE Executive Council: April Becker (Hanson Professional Services Incorporated), Scott Drone-Silvers (Lake Land College), and Jill Pifer (Fairview Heights Public Library).

The FCC is about to vote to kill net neutrality.
Only Congress can stop it.
The term “Net Neutrality” has been all over the news, Facebook, and the topic of many people around the water cooler lately. There is a lot of good information online about the topic. Some of the descriptions are intended to scare you with scenarios that will likely never pan out. As with everything though, there is some underlying truth to the statements.
Here is the main thing that libraries need to worry about. We want to keep the decision of what is appropriate to view on public computers up to the libraries and not the internet service providers (ISPs).
Big news! Illinois Heartland Library System (IHLS) is embarking on our seventh year of operations. In the last few years we have grown and come together as an organization. This is the perfect time to evaluate our organization’s brand and logo to ensure it conveys who we are today and how we are moving forward in the future. We are pleased to announce that today we are releasing an updated brand identity, which includes a new logo, colors, and font as part of the ongoing evolution of Illinois Heartland Library System.
