Delivery: A Brief Reminder Regarding Item Quarantine Procedures

[S]cientists have found that the virus SARS-CoV-2 that causes COVID-19 is not detectable on five common library materials after three days.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
You may have seen the study the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) released on June 22 regarding the viability of COVID-19 on circulated library materials. According to this study, we have received a glimmer of good news: "[S]cientists have found that the virus SARS-CoV-2 that causes COVID-19 is not detectable on five common library materials after three days."
 
Therefore, IHLS Delivery wants to remind all libraries to please continue to quarantine your outgoing delivery items for at least 72 hours since they were last handled by patrons. Once that time window has passed, our drivers will be happy to pick up your items and send them on their way. Please note, individual libraries are still welcome to quarantine their items for a longer period of time if that is in accordance with their individual re-opening plans. 
 
In addition, please continue to mark your outgoing tubs or containers with the date that the items inside were last handled by patrons. IHLS will also continue to mark on delivered tubs the date that items inside were last handled by our sorting staff. Once your library receives these deliveries, please proceed with your library's individual procedures for processing incoming materials.
