Personal Property Replacement Taxes (PPRT) are revenues collected by the state of Illinois and paid to local governments to replace money that was lost by local governments when their powers to impose personal property taxes on corporations, partnerships, and other business entities were taken away. Is your library receiving the Personal Property Replacement Tax funding its entitled to? Many library districts don't know what PPRT is, or that they may be owed a share of it. Two library directors shared their own stories of how they discovered their libraries were owed PPRT funds, the conversations they had with their municipalities, and the concrete steps they took to secure the funding, including the memorandums of understanding (MOUs) they put in place to ensure ongoing accountability.
