4.  LLSAP Report

IHLS Board approved the contract with Polaris Library Systems as software vendor for the SHARE automation group.

5.a. Review of Bids for Employee Health, Dental and Life Insurance

The board selected the following providers for employee insurance:  Coventry (health), Humana (vision), Humana (life), H&H (Employee Assistance Program).  IHLS staff will determine (as a group) whether to utilize MetLife for dental (at no cost for premium to employee) or Delta Dental (at a small monthly cost to employee).

IHLS Annual Meeting
You are invited to attend the 2012 Annual Meeting of the Board of Directors of IHLS which will be held on Tuesday, June 26, 2012, 5:00 p.m. at the Edwardsville IHLS office, 6725 Goshen Road, Edwardsville, IL 62025.  Join us as we celebrate our first year as the Illinois Heartland Library System!  We will recognize new and departing board members and retiring staff members.  Please register in L2.  (Light refreshments will be served.)  After the Annual Meeting you are welcome to attend the IHLS Board Meeting which will begin at 6 p.m.  

IHLS Offices Closed June 28, 2012
IHLS offices will be closed Thursday, June 28, 2012, to allow staff to attend staff development training.  Delivery and Talking Book Services will not be provided. We will be open and delivery will resume Friday, June 29, 2012, with extra routes if necessary to compensate for volume.

IHLS Staff Changes
After 23 years of system service, Donna Vesper, Computer Systems Coordinator (LLSAP) has announced her retirement. Donna’s last day will be June 29, 2012. We thank Donna for her many years of service and wish her joy on her retirement!

Ask Sens. Durbin and Kirk to Support Library Funding
The U.S. Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education (LHHS) is expected to mark-up (take a vote) on the FY 2013 LHHS budget on Tuesday, June 12. This budget is the source of federal funding for the Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) as well as funding for school libraries.   More information has been posted to the IHLS website under Library News.

Non-Resident Fees  (deadline June 15)   
Each year public libraries are required to submit to the System their non-resident fee for patrons that live outside their service area.  This year to gather that information we have a survey for public libraries to complete.  The survey gives complete information about the calculation of non-resident fees.  June 15 is the deadline for completion of the survey.  Once your board has determined the fee for your non-resident cards, please complete the survey.  If you do not sell non-resident cards please complete the survey indicating that information.  Here is the link to the survey If you have questions about the survey, please contact Bev Obert via email at

Illinois Employee Benefit Plan (ILEBP)
The Illinois Employee Benefit Plan (ILEBP) invites you to attend a webinar on June 21 @ 9:30 A.M. Learn about ILEBP benefits, including:

  • wellness initiative
  • EAP (Employee Assistance Program)
  • new member benefit
  • flexibility of being in a self-insured plan

ILEBP is open to all libraries in the state, regardless of how many full-time employees you would have on the plan.
