September IHLS Board Meeting

The next IHLS Board meeting is Tuesday, September 24, 2013. IHLS Board meetings will be available via videoconferencing at the Carterville, Champaign, and Edwardsville offices, as well as the Illinois State Library. If you are not able to join us in Effingham, perhaps one of these other locations will be more convenient. When available, you will find the September agenda and board packet here.

eRead Illinois

eRead Illinois, the much talked about Illinois statewide eBook consortium, will be available later this fall. As you've all probably heard, IHLS SHARE members will be using a 3M cloud platform because it works seamlessly with Polaris. RAILS will be using Baker & Taylor's Axis 360 platform.
IHLS members who are not members of SHARE may also participate in the statewide eBook consortium, through the Axis 360 platform. As we get closer to the latest Go Live day, RAILS is offering a series of webinars to familiarize potential participants with the product. Information about the webinars follows:
Training Webinars on eRead Illinois
The eRead Illinois project will include an e-book collection and an Axis 360 software platform from Baker & Taylor for RAILS members and IHLS non-Share members. Illinois libraries may learn more about this e-book platform through a demonstration webinar to be offered on:

Each webinar will cover the same content. Log into L2 and click on the dates above for more information.
There will also be an in-person opportunity to learn about the Baker & Taylor Axis 360 e-book platform and the eRead Illinois project during the Illinois Library Association conference. This session will be held Tuesday, October 15, 2013, from 10:45 a.m. to 11:45 a.m., in room 201-203 at Navy Pier in Chicago.
If you have any questions, contact Veronda Pitchford, Project Director and RAILS Director of Membership Development and Resource Sharing at 630.734.5119

What’s New @ WebJunction Illinois

Another awesome webinar has been added to September's line-up!
Federal Depository Libraries and the Affordable Care Act
Monday, September 23, 2013 1 pm CST 60 min Cost: $0
As libraries look ahead to the October 1 open enrollment date for the health insurance marketplace, there is an abundance of information about the Affordable Care Act (ACA), and many opportunities for libraries. IMLS is working with the Centers for Medicaid and Medicare and with WebJunction and ZeroDivide to provide library staff with the online resources and community contacts they will need to respond to questions about the Marketplace. One of the key roles that Federal Depository Libraries can play is to maintain an awareness of available resources in your area, and develop an approach for connecting patrons to those resources in the way that makes the most sense for your community.
Federal Depository Libraries are a key resource in connecting the public with documents and resources that are produced by the federal government (find a Federal Depository Library near you). Please join us for this interactive session, where we will discuss strategies for libraries to identify ACA resources, hear from a Federal Depository member library that is working to prepare for patron requests, and obtain key policy and resource updates from ACA experts.
