  • About the Organization

    Staley Library is a team of 7 full-time employees and approximately 20 student employees serving the students, faculty, staff, and administrators of Millikin University in Decatur, Illinois. Our collections include print and online resources supporting all Millikin majors, a leisure collection, a maker space, and the University archives, and our spaces range from quiet study areas to lively group study rooms. We are housed in the heart of campus in the University Commons, along with a coffee shop, dining services, the Center for International Education, the Center for Student Success, and Student Life. Millikin University grants full courtesy tuition waivers to full-time employees, their spouses and dependent children.
  • Job Description and Responsibilities

    Provides confidential administrative and budgetary support to the Director of Staley Library and other library faculty. Responsible for timely and accurate library acquisitions processes and record keeping. Assures provision of excellent Circulation Desk services to Millikin University students, faculty, administrators, and staff, as well as to community members, alumni, and visitors from other academic institutions statewide. The hours for this front line staff position are in-person, 8am-4:30pm, Monday-Friday, with paid holidays and other benefits (see: https://millikin.edu/about/administration/human-resources/benefits)
  • Minimum Requirements to Apply

    Two years of college or equivalent minimum required; associate’s or bachelor's degree preferred.
    One to three years' relevant experience required; work experience with budget management and in libraries preferred, and in an academic setting desirable.
    Computer proficiency required; working experience with library management systems preferred; must be an experienced and excellent user of word processing and other computer applications (Microsoft product experience preferred).
    Good interpersonal, supervisory, verbal, written, and basic math skills, along with customer/patron service skills required; must be timely, meticulous, and thorough with multiple details.
    Demonstrated ability and willingness to learn new things required; must be comfortable with a varied pace, overlapping tasks, and change.
    Demonstrated reliability and ability to work well both independently and with others as required.
    Manual Dexterity: Dexterity to operate a keyboard (or accessible equivalent).
    Physical Effort: Intermittently sitting/standing/stooping; Hearing and visual acuity within normal range; Loading, unloading, pushing, and steering book trucks.
    Working Conditions: Office/Library/computer room environment; Occasional exposure to dust.
