About the Organization
As our Children’s/Teen Librarian, you will lead the design and delivery of engaging services and programs for children, teens, and their families. You’ll manage the youth and teen collections, create developmentally appropriate programming, and foster a welcoming, inclusive environment in the library’s youth areas. This position plays a vital role in nurturing literacy, curiosity, and lifelong learning for young patrons across Danville. -
Job Description and Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
• Develop and lead in-library programming for children and teens, including storytimes, crafts, book clubs, and seasonal events
• Provide reference services and homework assistance for children, teens, and caregivers
• Select and maintain youth materials in all formats, using circulation data and reviews to inform purchases and weeding
• Assist with cataloging tasks such as checking bibliographic records, assigning Dewey numbers, and maintaining collection holdings
• Monitor and address the condition of youth materials, cleaning or repairing items as needed
• Support the annual inventory of juvenile and teen collections
• Maintain an orderly, safe, and engaging environment in youth and teen areas
•Oversee logistics for youth programming
• Create themed displays, bibliographies, and promotional materials to highlight youth collections
• Track programming statistics and participate in library-wide planning efforts
• Collaborate with library leadership and team members on service improvements, hiring, and training for youth services

Minimum Requirements to Apply
Qualifications
• Master’s degree in Library Science (MLS/MLIS) from an ALA-accredited program, or current enrollment with substantial youth services experience
• Strong knowledge of youth literature, early literacy concepts, and adolescent development
• Experience creating and leading youth programs in a library, school, or similar setting
• Proficiency with computers, online catalogs, and library software systems
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a welcoming and adaptable service style
• Ability to lift 20–25 lbs., bend, stoop, reach, push, and pull loaded book carts
• Flexible schedule with availability for evenings and weekends -
