  • Job Description and Responsibilities

    The Vespasian Warner Public Library District at 310 N. Quincy St. in Clinton is seeking qualified applicants for the position of part-time children’s clerk. Work schedule is Monday through Thursdays, 4:00PM to 7:00PM and every other Saturday, 9:00AM-1:00PM.



    Candidates must be interested in working in a customer service-oriented organization, have excellent communication skills, possess strong general computer skills, strong customer service skills, and a willingness to learn.



    Duties include checking materials in and out, shelving books, processing new materials, and assisting at children’s programs, and assisting patrons with basic reference questions. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age with a high school diploma or equivalent. Background check required. $15/hour with paid holidays & paid time off.

    Children’s Clerk

    Qualifications

    a) High school diploma or equivalent

    b) Ability to follow directions well

    c) Good customer service skills

    d) Strong Computer/typing skills

    e) Ability to read aloud and relate to listeners

    f) Physical abilities

    g) Crafting experience



    Preferred Qualifications

    a) Familiarity with children’s literature

    b) Experience working with children



    Duties

    a) Answer reference and readers’ advisory questions

    b) Assist patrons in locating materials

    c) Handle interlibrary loan requests

    d) Assist patrons with library equipment

    e) Perform other duties as directed by supervisor

    f) Prepare program materials and assist at programs as needed

    g) Barcoding of children’s items

    h) Inventory

    i) Assist with children’s floor decoration and displays

    j) Shelve returned items and keep collections in good order

    k) Processing of children’s and teen materials
