    The Resource Sharing Alliance (RSA), is a library automation consortia covering about 13,500 square miles of central and west-central Illinois. RSA provides a shared library automation system and direct support to 134 member libraries in 174 locations.

  • Job Description and Responsibilities

    Resource Sharing Alliance (RSA) is looking for our next Bibliographic Services Specialist. We are seeking someone who is a dynamic team member, detail-oriented, and service-minded. As a key member of the Bibliographic Services department, the Specialist ensures a quality bibliographic database that enables optimal discoverability of library materials for library staff and users.

    ** This full time position is set to begin in January, 2026. **

    Position Summary:
    The Bibliographic Services Specialist plays an integral role in the Bibliographic Services team, ensuring a high level of support for RSA member libraries. Performs copy cataloging, conducts database maintenance projects, and visits member libraries to provide cataloging-related support.

    Core Job Functions:
    * Performs copy cataloging of materials in all formats.
    * Makes independent decisions regarding the editing of MARC records while following RSA standards.
    * Loads bibliographic records into the shared database.
    * Assists with database maintenance and collection batch edits to ensure quality control of the shared bibliographic database.
    * Participates in workshops, training sessions, and routine site visits to member libraries.
    * Assists member libraries with strategies, policies, and procedures affecting their daily cataloging operations.
    * Assists with research and creation of cataloging documentation for RSA staff and the member libraries.
    * Communicates using all channels to review issues, questions, or concerns and provides cataloging troubleshooting.
    * Participates in and suggests professional development opportunities to maintain current awareness of cataloging and technical services trends and automation system technologies.
    * Participates in ad hoc or permanent project teams, working closely and effectively with other team members.
    * Participates in testing of new or upgraded software and may assist with developing cataloging documentation.

    Working Conditions:
    * Work takes place at the RSA office and member libraries with limited remote work opportunities after training
    * Ability to work varied and extended hours, requiring occasional overnight and weekend travel as well as travel to member libraries during the workday.
    * Safely operate a fleet vehicle for RSA-related travel.
  • Minimum Requirements to Apply

    * Associate’s degree from a Library Technical Assistant (LTA) program with completion of at least 1 cataloging course required; equivalent library work experience will be considered in lieu of an LTA degree.
    * 1+ years of copy cataloging experience; or recent completion of cataloging course.
    * Basic knowledge required of descriptive and subject cataloging practices, Dewey Decimal Classification, Library of Congress subject and genre headings, OCLC Bibliographic Formats and Standards, and Machine Readable Cataloging (MARC).
    * 1+ years of experience delivering customer service in a library setting strongly preferred, relevant customer service experience in other settings may also be taken into account.
    * 1+ years of experience using integrated library systems (ILS) strongly preferred, familiarity with SirsiDynix Symphony preferred.
    * 1+ years of experience using online public access catalogs (OPACs) preferred.
    * Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
    * Possess a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
