  • Job Description and Responsibilities

    Job Description Title: Part-time Circulation Assistant Part-time hourly (10-15 hours per week)
    Basic Qualifications: High school diploma/GED
    Nature of Responsibility: The Circulation Assistant must display a positive and helpful attitude and a neat appearance. The ability to organize one’s work, set priorities, multitask and work without supervision is essential.
    Duties and Responsibilities:
    •Assist with opening/closing routine using a check list (turn on/off computers, printers, copier, make sure printers are stocked with paper, bring in or put out delivery bins, make sure all patrons have exited the building, etc.)
    •Empty book drops upon arrival in a.m. and as needed throughout the day
    •Check in materials from book drops
    •Return materials neatly to the shelves in the proper order
    •Maintain shelves by regularly reviewing call numbers and reshelving anything found out of place
    •Keep materials straight and neat and remove items that are damaged or in need of repair
    •All aspects of circulation, including but not limited to: Registering new patrons, checking materials in and out, collecting payments, renewing materials, renewing patron registrations, placing holds, patron service, providing reference services, etc.
    •Pull daily holds list and route interlibrary loan materials
    •Run daily unclaimed report and check those items in to be returned to owning library
    •Provide general assistance to patrons when needed
    •Basic cleaning and light maintenance as needed. Sweep/vacuum floors, take out recycling bins, remove trash, leaves and debris from parking lot, lawn and sidewalks, dust shelves and furniture, set up and take down tables as needed, cleaning bathroom, etc.
    •Clear sidewalks of snow, ice, leaves and debris as needed
    •Miscellaneous duties as assigned
    •Night and Saturday availability is required
    Abilities, Skills, and Knowledge:
    •Ability to be on one’s feet 90% of the time
    •Ability to stand, bend, squat, and stretch in order to reach materials at various heights
    •Ability to lift at least 50 pounds
    •Must have the ability to learn and use the circulation system as well as changes and enhancements
    •Good communication skills are necessary to interact with library users, coworkers and the general public
