  • Job Description and Responsibilities

    Examples of Duties
    Core Library Operations & Cataloging

    Execute original and copy cataloging of library resources, ensuring strict compliance with MARC and RDA standards.

    Manage the seamless import and adaptation of bibliographic records into the library catalog, adhering to CARLI consortium standards.

    Coordinate and perform all circulation desk activities, including material check-out, return processing, shelving, and identifying damaged or compromised collection items.



    Systems Administration & Digital Resources
    Serve as the administrator for Ex Libris Alma and Primo VE, maintaining system accuracy for patron records, electronic resources, and user interfaces.

    Collect and analyze usage statistics and data for assessment and reporting purposes.

    Provide advanced technical expertise and dedicated support for all library digital and electronic resources.

    Liaise with the CARLI consortium to coordinate system maintenance and updates.



    Patron & Staff Support
    Provide comprehensive support to patrons, including directional, reference, and research assistance, along with guidance on using campus technologies.

    Collaborate with the Coordinator on the acquisitions process, including preparing and checking new orders, and processing/labeling new materials.

    Partner with Information Technology Services (ITS) staff to ensure the consistent functionality and reliability of all campus technologies used by the library.

    Assist the Coordinator with the training and supervision of work-study students.



    Administrative Support
    Manage library supply inventories, maintaining accurate records for all orders and expenditures.

    Fulfill other reasonable professional duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Minimum Requirements to Apply

    Typical Qualifications
    Education & Experience

    Minimum Education: An Associate's Degree in Library or Information Studies or a related field, combined with three (3) years of progressively responsible library experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    Technical & Specialized Skills
    Required Technical Skills: Demonstrated experience or specialized training in relevant library technologies and computer applications.

    Highly Preferred: Prior experience with an Integrated Library System (ILS), electronic resource management, or digital cataloging tools.



    Foundational Skills
    Communication & Service: Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and a proven commitment to a strong service orientation are required.

    Essential Functions

    Institutional Alignment: Understand and actively support the mission of the community college.

    Technical Cataloging Proficiency: Possess expert knowledge of MARC records and RDA standards, and demonstrate high proficiency in performing original and copy-cataloging.

    Communication: Exhibit strong written and oral communication and interpersonal skills.

    Daily Communication: Communicate effectively and consistently via telephone and email on a daily basis with internal and external stakeholders.

    Technical Skills: Proficiently operate basic office equipment and effectively utilize Microsoft Office and Google Suite products.

    Teamwork: Ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment.

    Work Schedule: Must be available to work evenings and weekends as required by operational needs.

    Physical Demands:

    Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

    The role involves approximately 70% of time spent standing and walking (assisting patrons and re-shelving materials) and 30% sitting (data entry and materials processing).

    Personal Interaction
    Frequent and necessary personal contact is maintained with all levels of College personnel, faculty, students, the general public, and outside organizations regarding specific departmental duties and services.

    Supervision Exercised
    Functional supervision is exercised over designated work-study students.
