The Illinois Library Association’s awards program recognizes excellence in librarianship and library service in Illinois. The program increases awareness of the contributions of all association participants, including recipients, sponsors, co-sponsors, and committees/forums.

Recipients are selected by the ILA Awards Committee or by the various forum awards subcommittees. Nominations are forwarded by the ILA office to the ILA Awards Committee chair, and to the appropriate forum representative, during May of each year.

The American Library Association (ALA) announced the opening of the application process for the prestigious Google Policy Fellowship program. The ALA Office for Information Technology Policy (OITP) was a founding participant of the program back in 2008.

The Illinois State Historical Records Advisory Board (ISHRAB), using funding from National Historical Publications and Records Commission (NHPRC), is offering grants of up to $5,000 to Illinois historical records keepers to develop and/or carry out projects that show commitment to developing and/or implementing projects that will lead to enhanced online access.

The John Cotton Dana Award honors outstanding effective strategic communication campaigns that show results, no matter what size or type of library. In recognition of their achievement, John Cotton Dana Award winners receive a $10,000 cash development grant from the H.W. Wilson Foundation.

United for Libraries is accepting applications for the Baker & Taylor Awards, given to friends of the library groups and library foundations. Applications are due May 1, 2017.

Given annually since 2000, the Baker & Taylor Awards have recognized more than 45 groups for outstanding efforts to support their library. Two winning groups will each receive $1,000.

Members of ALA’s New Members Round Table (NMRT) can apply to receive a $1000 grant through the MANGO/NMRT Professional Development Grant.  Funds are given to assist with expenses to attend the ALA Annual Conference, June 22 – June 27, 2017 in Chicago, Illinois. This award is generously sponsored by MANGO Languages. Deadline: Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at 5 pm (EST).

The Illinois Department of Commerce & Economic Opportunity’s Illinois Energy Now program is fully funded through May 2017.  Indian Trails Public Library District recently took advantage of this program for its lighting retrofit project, and received over $39,000 in rebates. 

The American Association of School Librarians (AASL) is offering 30 grants for travel to its 18th National Conference & Exhibition. The conference, themed “Beyond the Horizon,” will be held Nov. 9-11, 2017, in Phoenix, Arizona. Full conference details can be found at national.aasl.org.
