Visit IHLS at ILA, ISLMA, and HSLI

IHLS will have booths at both the Illinois Library Association (ILA) conference and the Illinois School Library Media Association (ISLMA) conference and will be giving a system update at Health Science Librarians of Illinois (HSLI) conference. If you are attending any of the conferences, please stop by! IHLS staff members will be available to answer your questions and explain the benefits of IHLS membership.


IHLS Board Meeting – October 24, 2017

The next IHLS Board meeting is Tuesday, October 24, 2017, at 5:00 p.m. at the IHLS Edwardsville office. The Board meeting will also be available at several videoconferencing (VTEL) sites. When available, you will find the agenda and board packet here.


October 3 Members Matter Recording & Follow-up

Did you miss the Members Matter on October 3? The meeting started with updates from the Illinois State Library with news on the budget, upcoming events and deadlines. System staff provided updates on system news, delivery, SHARE and membership.
Carol Kulek spoke about grants available through Ameren and Janet McAllister, director of the Rochester Public Library shared her thoughts on hosting a visit from the Librarian of Congress.
Beth Paoli, from the Literacy Office, spoke about the availability of Story Kits and Adult New Reader Book Club Collections.  There was even a special guest appearance from the Nao Robot.  This robot is fully programmable and has been used in library programming with autistic children.
The morning finished with a discussion of the role of libraries during the age of “fake news.”

Teen Read Week – October 8-14, 2017

Teen Read Week encourages teens to be regular readers and library users. The 2017 event features the theme 'Unleash Your Story." Library staff, afterschool providers, and educators are encouraged to leverage this theme to encourage teens to tell their own stories as well as find stories, biographies, autobiographies, folktales, and more in their local library. National Friends of Libraries Week – October 15-21, 2017

National Friends of Libraries Week honors our nation’s Friends of Libraries groups. It is a time not only to celebrate Friends, but also to promote themselves in the community, to raise awareness, and to promote membership. Find more information on the United for Libraries website.

Family Reading Night – November 16, 2017

Family Reading Night is an annual statewide event held the third Thursday in November to encourage families to spend quality time reading together.
