Have you tried Delivery On the Go (DOG) yet? This supplement to our five-day delivery service allows our drivers to move some interlibrary loan materials directly from one library to another, all on the same route and on the same day, without returning to an IHLS delivery hub for sorting. In other words, qualifying interlibrary loan items can be delivered to your library the very day you request them! Same route, same day.
We make this easy by providing bright orange bags for Delivery On the Go items! Instead of worrying about placing items on top of bins, leaving them vulnerable to the elements, or relying on your route driver’s memory to deliver early, you can simply place them in these sturdy, reusable, and recyclable orange bags.
Qualifying libraries should have a stack of orange Delivery On the Go bags in addition to delivery tubs. (Please let us know if you don’t have any bags, and we’ll send you some in your bins.) To make same-day delivery easier on our drivers, please keep these bags and use them whenever you need to send an item same-day to a down-stream library.
- The requesting library is down-stream from the library that owns the items
- The requesting library has selected to receive ILL delivery that day.
How to Send an Item via Delivery On the Go
If you pull an item for a library after you on your IHLS Delivery route, help patrons get it faster with Delivery On the Go (and others can do the same for you!).
To send an item via the Delivery On the Go service:
- Identify an Eligible Item. If you pull an item for a library after you on your IHLS Delivery route, help patrons get it faster with Delivery On the Go (DOG).
- Place It in a DOG Bag. Grab one of the orange Delivery On the Go bags provided by your IHLS hub.
- Write the Destination. Use a permanent marker and the lines on the back of the bag to indicate which library the materials should go to.
- Place it atop Your Tubs. Place the item in the DOG bag on top of your outgoing tubs so the driver can see it.
That’s it! When our delivery driver arrives, they’ll pick up the bag and bring it to the receiving library the same day—the fastest service possible, with no trip to the IHLS hub required.
