Library Crawl Information and Resources for Librarians
The 7th Annual Library Crawl Will Take Place Oct. 1–31, 2025
The Annual Library Crawl is a unique event organized by the public libraries of Illinois Heartland Library System as a fun way to introduce your public library's patrons to the other libraries of the IHLS service area. Patrons visit area libraries throughout the month of the crawl and get a passport stamp at each library they visit. Some patrons have tried to visit every library in the crawl! The main purpose, though, is to help participants discover the many, many great resources available to them with their library cards.

Printable Passport
Here it is! The Official Passport for the 2024 Library Crawl. It is set up to be printed 2-sided, flipped on the short edge. Use letter-size paper (8.5x11), fold the stack of pages in half, and you will have a Passport booklet to hand out to your patrons who wish to go Library Crawling.

Linked from the passport through a QR code, this guide provides a list of locally recommended restaurants and sights to see in each library community. Libraries can optionally choose to print their library community page or the entire guidebook. Now also available as an online flipbook!

Your library's level of participation is completely up to you.
Basic Responsibilities
Publicizing your participation in this year's Library Crawl* Printing passports for your patrons* Welcoming patrons from other libraries
*Library Crawl organizers will provide the digital file for the passport and some graphics to use and share.
Optional and Encouraged Activities
Participant freebies — Libraries are encouraged to provide small gifts or treats to all crawl participants who visit their library. Challenge or contest for home library's patrons — Each library is also encouraged to come up with a small challenge or contest for their own patrons who participate in the crawl. For example, Bethalto Public Library has previously held drawings for a gift card or gift basket for eligible patrons who visited five or more libraries.
