The School District Library Grant Program is designed to help provide more library books and materials for the students of public schools in Illinois. The state legislature has authorized up to a $.75 per pupil expenditure for qualifying schools. The grant award is based on funds appropriated by the General Assembly and the official enrollment as of the previous September 30th of a school district.

The Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC) and the Grants Administration Committee are now accepting online applications for the 2017 Maureen Hayes Author/Illustrator Award. This $4,000 award, made possible by an annual gift from Simon & Schuster Children’s Publishing in honor of Maureen Hayes, brings together children and nationally recognized authors/illustrators by funding an author/illustrator visit to a library.

The Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC) and the Friends of ALSC recently announced a scholarship opportunity for the ALSC Mini Institute.

Members are encouraged to nominate their colleagues and peers to recognize exceptional library professionals that make a difference in improving the lives of the people they serve.

Reference and User Services Association (RUSA) will opened the nomination period for its annual series of achievement awards and grants.

Achievement awards for individuals and groups:

Isadore Gilbert Mudge Award, RUSA's highest honor, recognizes an individual who has made a distinguished contribution to the field of reference librarianship. $5,000* and a citation. Sponsored by Credo.

The 11th annual National Friends of Libraries Week will be held Oct. 16-22, 2016. Two Friends groups will be awarded $250 each in honor of their celebrations during the week.

The American Library Association (ALA) has more than $300,000 available to students who are studying in library science or school library media programs at the master's degree level.

Scholarships range from $1,500 to $7,000 per student per year.  They include scholarships for students who are interested in Children's Librarianship, Youth Librarianship, Federal Librarianship, new media and Library Automation.  In addition, there are also scholarships available for minorities, persons with disabilities and people who are already employed in libraries but do not have an MLS. 

The Walmart Foundation will open the application period for its State Giving Program funding cycle on Monday, Aug. 29.

The Illinois State Historical Records Advisory Board (ISHRAB) is offering scholarships to Illinois archivists and archival volunteers to take the American Association for State and Local History's online "Basics of Archives" course.
